Is Desert Safari Worth It?
For most visitors to Dubai, the desert safari is an absolute must-do — and the value is hard to beat. A standard evening safari starts from just AED 99 and includes hotel pickup, dune bashing, camel riding, sandboarding, a BBQ dinner, and live performances. That's six hours of entertainment for less than the price of a single cocktail at a rooftop bar.
The evening safari suits first-timers, families, and couples equally well. Those seeking more intensity can upgrade to an overnight option (from AED 299), which adds a dawn desert breakfast and sleeping under the stars. If you prefer a different kind of adrenaline, Deep Dive Dubai offers a contrasting thrill — but the desert safari remains the more iconic Dubai experience for the price point. For those visiting with children or elderly guests, the camp activities can be enjoyed without participating in the dune bashing portion.
What to Expect at Desert Safari Dubai
Your safari begins with a hotel pickup between 2:30 PM and 3:30 PM in a shared 4x4 Land Cruiser. The drive to the Lahbab red dunes takes around 45–60 minutes. Once in the dunes, your driver deflates the tyres for grip and spends 20–30 minutes navigating steep drops and sharp turns — the intensity is real, and motion sickness bags are provided for good reason.
After dune bashing, there's time for sandboarding (boards are provided), a short camel ride, and golden-hour photography as the sun sets over the dunes. You'll then arrive at the Bedouin camp as darkness falls. The camp experience lasts 2–3 hours and includes an extensive BBQ buffet with grilled meats, salads, and Arabic bread alongside live entertainment: a fire show, Tanoura spinning performance, and belly dancing. Expect large crowds on weekends and during peak season — for a quieter experience, book a weekday slot. The camp atmosphere is festive but not overwhelming, and shisha is available for purchase.
Best Time to Visit Desert Safari Dubai
October through April is the optimal window for a desert safari in Dubai. Temperatures drop to a pleasant 18–28°C in the evenings, making the camp experience genuinely comfortable. December and January are peak months — book at least a week ahead. Summer safaris (May–September) are possible but the daytime heat exceeds 45°C; camp temperatures are more manageable after sunset, but it's still significantly warmer than the winter months.
